The CD-ROM includes a program called Mutual Fund Finder, with a historical database and Momingstar rankings of 4400 funds. You can see details of any particular investment, with a performance graph and price history, and a new Watch List tracks securities that you are thinking of buying. The new Portfolio view lets you modify all your investment information in one window, Several new performance measures, including average cost per share, return on investment, and total dollars invested, have been added. The investment area of the program has also had a significant face-lift. A new Budget Monitoring window tells you if you are over budget for the month using colorcoded bars: green denotes financial freedom, and red means monetary mayhem. Intuit has completely revamped the budgeting section of Quicken, making it much easier to set up and use. Actually, Quicken 6 comes on floppies and includes just the program, but this review covers the CD-ROM version, called Quicken Deluxe 6, which includes multimedia-based financial advice, a home-inventory program, and a mutual-fund database. This year’s edition of Quicken adds convenience features and makes the program easier to use.
